Beirut is the capital of Lebanon, a small country in the Middle East. It is one of the oldest cities in the world, and yet one of the most modern and diverse cities in the region, sometimes referred to as ‘the Paris of the Middle East’. The city is home to about one million people and eighteen different recognized religious groups, both Muslim and Christian. Located on a peninsula on the Mediterranean coast, the city’s climate is characterized by warm summers and cooler winters.

I never went to Beirut. Our trip there got cancelled, but as it turns out, it didn’t really matter. Nowadays we don’t need to visit countries in order to photograph them.
