When photographing the town of New Holland, Pennsylvania, I unexpectedly got invited for afternoon tea with an Iraqi refugee family. A week after I got back home, a Dutch newspaper headline stated in quite a negative way that a subclass of refugees is forming in the Netherlands. Going through these images and writing down this family's story made me wonder if the negative expression used in the newspaper headline was justified. What if the refugees that have been coming to my country are as motivated to contribute to our society as I was told in New Holland?
